This month, students from Trinity school organised a Power of 10 week.
Inspired by the Power of 10 festival which they attended earlier this year, the Starfish group has set about putting climate on the agenda at school. They used a different theme from the Changemaker Toolkit each day, such as Fast Fashion, Ocean, What a Waste and Our Warming Planet. On each day, the students downloaded and printed off resources from the Power of 10 app to use as posters or distribute on their stand at break and lunch. They got creative organising all sorts of activities, from quizzes to pledges, cake sales to old clothes sales and e-waste recycling. The students used the Power of 10 slide decks to give assemblies on each theme, and to talk about their involvement with Power of 10.
On Thursday, Amy visited the school to give assemblies to 600 students from Year 7 and 8 on her story and on climate action. She spent a lot of time talking to Starfish group about their actions, how they felt the week had gone and why they loved Power of 10.
Ms Hollins, the teacher helping them out, said that ‘the week would not have been possible without Power of 10. All the resources were fantastic and it has given the students so much more confidence and made it so easy as a teacher.’
One of the students said, ‘Power of 10 has changed my entire personality. Since the festival, I have had a purpose and a passion and have learned so much.’
We love seeing Power of 10 in action like this, and can’t wait to turn Trinity’s learnings into a guide for other schools to run their very own week!
