Another Way’s Changemakers of Tomorrow Residential is one of my absolute favourite programmes. Young people rarely get a chance to explore their climate action with like-minded young people – but we bring together 12 young changemakers from across the UK to spend three fully funded days immersed in nature, connecting to each other, to nature, and learning and developing the skills that they need to design their own climate and nature campaigns. We partner with the brilliant Brathay Trust, an outdoor centre for young people on Lake Windermere, which enables us to deliver the residential in a really unique way – teaching future skills through outdoor learning! Think developing personal resilience through high ropes, or learning how to create a campaign theory of change through a navigation journey across a lake.
From speaking to the young people, it’s an opportunity that leaves a lasting impression; they learn from each other and access conversations that wouldn’t happen in their normal school environment. It’s just incredible to see them develop across the three days. They come with a passion, but not necessarily with the confidence and experience to actually develop an environmental campaign. They leave with amazing projects that we will support them to implement in their schools and communities, and having had loads of fun and made friends for life too.
