Tell us a bit about yourself.
Hi! I’m Olivia, Another Way’s Digital Communications Lead. I’m originally from Colorado in the US, but moved to the UK two years ago to pursue an MA in Visual Anthropology at the University of Manchester. I’m a filmmaker and photographer with a background in fine arts, and prior to working with Another Way I worked in nonprofit communications for a girls’ education charity.
What do you enjoy most about working for Another Way?
As I do not come from a hard science background, I love that Another Way provides an encouraging space for me to expand my knowledge on wildlife, ecology, sustainability, and the climate. I am constantly learning how my creative skills can benefit these areas and make a difference, which is so rewarding!
Which environmental topics are you most excited about?
I’m really passionate about the intersection of gender and climate. Educating women and girls plays a huge role in unlocking potential climate solutions and creating a greener global future. I’m also interested in the ways in which humans work with nature to adapt to their changing environments, instead of working against it.
What are some small steps you take to create a more sustainable lifestyle for yourself?
I thrift most of my clothing and have taught myself how to embroider and make basic repairs. I’ve also been vegetarian for about three years now!
Leave us with a small piece of positive news you’ve heard this week!
As an American, I’ve been really encouraged by the number of people in the US who have registered to vote since Kamala Harris announced her presidential campaign! This is a crucial election for climate progress on a global scale, and it’s clear that young people are determined to make their voices heard and create a more sustainable world for future generations.
