Another Way held its first Science Storytelling for Change event earlier this month, hosted on the University of Exeter’s Penryn campus. We heard from three amazing panellists who are all passionate about science storytelling: Gillian Burke, biologist and natural history television presenter; Anna Roberts, documentary director and film lecturer; and Rada Pandeva, marine scientist and founder of The Thalassophile Project.
Amy Bray, the founder of Another Way, led the panel and the audience through a discussion of engaging questions. Each panellist gifted us with their expertise, and a few overarching messages kept coming back. The importance of creating impact with our stories and reaching an audience outside of our own echo chamber. We heard how a good story taps into your audience’s emotions and speaks in their language, be it English, sign language, music, or anything that connects with your audience’s essence. Leading our stories with love and empathy for the audiences’ experiences can help us reach new people.
The panel discussion was followed by an active Q&A and then a networking session for the attendees and panellists.
Thank you again to our wonderful panellists for sharing their insights. It was an inspiring event for everyone on how we can work together to tell science through stories.
