Marley (age 17) and Archie (age 12), a senior Power of 10 ambassador and regional rep respectively, recently gave local talks using our Power of 10 resources. Here’s what they say about the experience!

On Wednesday 10th July, I headed to St Cuthbert’s Catholic Primary School based in Windermere. My aim was to teach the students from year 3 to year 6 a little more about plastic pollution and the oceans. To do this, I used Power of 10’s Ocean slidedeck and adapted it slightly to work in the hour I had. This resource enabled me to present a topic I wanted to with ease.
Everyone was shocked to learn (including the teachers) that when eating fish there’s a chance you’re also eating plastic! I also got the students to play the microplastics food chain game which they found really fun and educational. Before I left, I set them off on a task to make posters to discourage plastic pollution. Some of the pictures show examples of what they created.
It was so exciting and thrilling to be able to educate other people on topics I’m really passionate about, especially since the youngest students were only around 10 years younger than myself!

I recently did a talk near Penrith about “treading gently”, which is all about not harming our planet. Around 30 people came, and I talked about how fossil fuels affect the world and how the greenhouse gas effect works.
We played a game of “palm oil or no palm oil”, where we displayed pictures on the screens and had members of the audience decide whether the product had palm oil or not. I also spoke about what Power of 10 is in a nutshell. I used the Our Warming Planet slidedeck from the Power of 10 app and edited it down to be half an hour long.
I felt it went really well! It was one of the first times I had done something like that! The day after I was pulled up to the front of a church service to speak about what I did in front of 40 extra people! It felt really good and I would love to do more things like it soon!
