Tell us a bit about yourself.
I am a postgraduate research student currently living in Cornwall and looking into the movement and foraging ecology of Sooty Terns from Ascension Island. I love being outdoors, whether that’s running, hiking, sea swimming, caving, canyoning or just vegetating on the beach. I am very passionate about conservation, and have worked with a variety of species including turtles, sharks, land crabs and seabirds. I also teach gymnastics and cheerleading, so if you need backflip advice I can probably help out!
What do you enjoy most about working for Another Way?
I really believe science should be accessible to everyone, and I love creating articles that are fun to read and easy to understand.
Which environmental topics are you most excited about?
My current obsessions are polar ecology and seabird science, with a side of Green Turtle nesting behaviour fascination, although I think anyone who has ever seen me squeal at the sight of a cetacean would say I get pretty excited about those too!
What are some small steps you take to create a more sustainable lifestyle for yourself?
I love clothes, but I make sure to always shop second-hand in charity shops or on Vinted, and recently I’ve also learned to crochet which has opened up a whole new world of (extremely) slow fashion.
Leave us with a small piece of positive news you’ve heard this week!
A jackdaw ringed by my bird ringing group in May 2022 was resighted this week in the same location 2 and a half years later! It was reported by an amateur birder and it so amazing to know that someone took time out their day to help contribute to our scientific research.
