Elli has hit the ground running in her first month as Youth Engagement Lead. Since starting in November she has already run a number of workshops in a number of schools! Her first set were at Ackworth School in West Yorkshire where she worked with over 50 students. The first session was on Food for Thought where students looked at the impact of reducing meat consumption, eating seasonal foods and checking for palm oil in food. The second session was on Waste, where students discussed where waste goes, whether recycling is the answer and becoming conscious consumers to reduce waste.
In Cumbria, at Queen Katherine’s School, Elli worked with Amy to run workshops on Climate Activism research for the University of Bath. Over 100 students shared their feelings on climate and considered how their actions can have an impact. Even in the last week of term Elli has been delivering workshops in schools. At Trinity Academy Leeds the Eco Club are working to reduce waste, so after discussing reducing and recycling students learnt how to reuse an old t-shirt to make a new tote bag. In the new year she will be returning to help support students in using the Power of 10 resources to put together a school wide plan. Finally, at Oakfield School, Wigan, Elli and Amy spent a day with students as part of their International Week where they were focusing on Sustainable Development Goals including 13, Climate Activism. Around 100 students across the day completed tasks looking at how they feel activism can have an impact, and set themselves New Years resolutions to be kinder to the planet.
Elli is looking forward to next year, meeting change makers across the UK and running many many Power of 10 workshops!
