Team interview: Elli Clarke

Tell us a bit about yourself.

As a Geographer I love the world around me, exploring places and learning about them. I have always worked with young people, sharing my passion for the environment and teaching about the impacts we have on the world. It is important to me that we spread positivity and sustainability! Outside of work, I enjoy a good walk, dipping in cold water and occasionally even a run!

What do you do with Another Way?

I am the Youth Engagement Lead. This means I will be working with schools and other settings to spread the Power of 10 movement and help to develop young climate changemakers.

What do you most enjoy about working with Another Way?

I am excited to work with young people to take action to combat climate change and inspire them to create a better, kinder, more sustainable future for all.

Which environmental topics are you most excited about?

Developing innovative ways to help solve the climate crisis is so exciting! I love how people think differently and outside of the box to come up with solutions. One of my favourite solutions is CarbFix, being developed in Iceland, to capture carbon directly from the atmosphere and store it in basalt rocks.

What are some small steps you take to create a more sustainable lifestyle for yourself?

Second hand clothing! I love a trawl through Vinted for new to me clothes. It gives clothes a second chance of life and stops them from ending up in landfill. Hopefully in the future it can even reduce the amount of clothing made every year.

Leave us with a piece of positive news you’ve heard about this week!

In Scotland they plan to reintroduce wild bulls similar to ancient aurochs who will help to improve biodiversity and soak up carbon dioxide! They will support healthy soils and rewild an area near to Loch Ness. As large grazers they will contribute to the growth of native plants and help to create habitats for wildlife. Up to 15 of them will be out roaming the highlands by 2026!
