How to turn climate concern into action – Amy’s keynote at Manchester Metropolitan University

How can we turn climate concern into action? Amy speaks at Manchester Met.

Amy has gained so much experience and insight into inspiring young people to take action for the planet, and last week she shared her knowledge in a keynote speech at Manchester Metropolitan University. The speech was given to a room full of educators, organisations and civil servants – here were her top recommendations to bridge the gap between concern and action.

🌿 Create cultures of care- celebrating and supporting students through successes and failures alike.

🌿 Embed holistic climate education across subjects.

🌿 Focus on the high impact actions that young people have agency over.

🌿 Have authentic, human conversations with your students about your climate feelings.

🌿 Nurture empathy, critical thinking and imagination over knowledge.

🌿 Lead the change WITH young people- invite them to co-design Climate Action Plans, but lead by example.

We believe that young people have innate empathy for the planet, nature and fellow human beings – if we can harness this through education, we can create a culture which prioritises looking after our world.
