OUR WARMING PLANET

Fully funded school & youth group workshops

We know the climate is changing, and that emissions are the culprit… but what exactly is the science behind our warming planet?

In this session, we’ll get to grips with the greenhouse effect, travel back in time to see how atmospheric carbon concentrations have changed in Earth’s long history, and chart the scientific discoveries which led to our current understanding of climate change. By the end, students will understand how our fossil fuel emissions affect average weather conditions and extreme events across the globe, and how this is impacting people and wildlife. Importantly, we’ll also discuss why it matters that we put an end to climate change – and get students fired up with the skills, confidence and knowledge to go out into the world and do just that!

BIG QUESTIONS
What is the greenhouse effect?
How are humans causing our planet to warm?
Which actions can young people take to make a difference?

WORKSHOP ACTIVITIES
Flipping the climate script card sort: the most effective climate actions you can take might surprise you!
Carbon footprint game: a fun way to figure out your own planetary footprint.
Visualising change through a river: how we can make differences up and down stream.
Debate: we’ll take on some of the most common climate myths, and ask – true or false?
Creating an action plan for change: how can you use what you’ve learned to make a difference in your own life?

Our workshops are backed by leading climate and education scientists, and are just the right blend of inspiration, information and interaction. Students who have taken part in our workshops have gone on to start their own initiatives, fundraising events and volunteering positions.

Everyone has a part to play in climate action, so it’s important to us that our workshops are accessible to everyone. We’re adapting our workshops for SEND schools, and working with our Youth Advisory Group to ensure that our activities reflect the needs of all young people. Workshops are fully funded for state schools and most youth groups, and are designed for KS3-KS5.
