What to watch

 Short film: Becoming Nature Positive

We know of the climate crisis, but have you ever heard of the nature crisis? This film dives into understanding what ‘nature positive’ means and how we can start not just reversing nature decline, but actively filling the world back up with wildlife. I never really considered how nature loss can be viewed as a whole separate issue to climate change, rather than just a byproduct of it.

Explore the 30 minute masterpiece and the story behind it here.

What to listen to

Podcast: Outrage + Optimism

For anyone who hasn’t given up on saving our planet, this podcast claims that this is the best stance to take! What first drew me to this was the bold title, which I think nicely represents the two sides of the coin (are you outraged or optimistic?) when it comes to navigating the climate crisis. Their first debut episode also involves Sir David Attenborough, which is also 100% a good sign!

What to read

Poetry: Nature Matters

Mona Arshi asked on social media, “Where are all our black and Asian nature writers?” and recieved a huge response. It said, we are here – and the anthology collection, Nature Matters, is the result. The book includes nature writing from authors around the world – read it and you will be treated to an abundance of perspectives, beliefs and words on our connection with nature and what we can do to help it.

What to do

Events: Meet the animals who hang out after dark

Parks and wildlife trusts around the UK are running a whole series of wildlife walks and craft activities to help you embrace the long nights and spooky hours! Pembrokeshire Coast Park will take you on a magical storytelling adventure through the woods, exploring the senses of our nocturnal creatures. Leeds Museum and Galleries will lead you around the walls of the abbey, spotting owls and bats.

Keep an eye (or both, if you’re not sure what’s lurking in the woods…) out for activities going on where you live!
