It has been another exciting week at Daffodil HQ. On Tuesday we made our 16,000th daffodil which marked the end of the clay production process. It feels unbelievable that we have reached this point – it only feels like yesterday when we were first welcoming our volunteers to the Lowther Barn. How time flies when you are having fun!
So we are now into the assembly phase of daffodil production. This process initially had our manufacturing and production guru/inventor Michael Reed scratching his head – how to devise a way to fix the clay head firmly on to the steel stem in a way that that everyone can manage. Needless to say Michael has come up with an ingenious solution using a combination of metal and rubber washers with various cunning wooden tools which he designed specially. He even constructed the assembly stations himself. Is there no end to this man’s talents??
Full training is being given to all our lovely teams of volunteers and just about everyone has been able to pick it up pretty quickly. The assembly line is a very calm and therapeutic space in which to spend a couple of hours.
